JING JY CHEN

the Delights of
Nature
Oriental Brush Works
|
|
As a longtime Howard
County resident and teacher, Jing-Jy Chen has established herself as one of
the area’s most well-known artists in Chinese brush painting. Chen was born
in Tainan, Taiwan. She received her B.A. in Chinese literature from Taiwan
Normal University in Taipei, Taiwan, and her M.Ed. from the University of
Rochester, Rochester, New York. With her Asian heritage, free mind, wide
imagination, and an eye for finding nature’s internal beauty, her artwork
presents a fresh expression of the world around us. Before even picking up
the brush, she studies and ponders the objects carefully before she is ready
to present her interpretation of the internal spirit. Her work embodies the
spirit and vitality of a rich Asian tradition, and is characterized by bold
brushstrokes that combines a subtle use of colors. Her pieces are studies
in the balance between powerful brush strokes and negative space. What is
left unsaid is as powerful as what is expressed. |
